Live-in house and pet sitting
My husband is 71 and just retired, and I am 66 and retired. We've lived in Davis since 1996. Now that Ben is retired, we want to travel and were worried how we could do it with 2 kitties at home, and a friend told us about TrustedHousesitters.
We both came from farming backgrounds, with Ben continuing in agriculture in a seed company until he retired in 2018. I focused on secretarial jobs, then owned my own secretarial services for almost 15 years when computers took over the world which ended when individuals and businesses started using computers. I did office administration until I started having major back problems due to my rheumatoid arthritis, and decided to retire early. We have one daughter who works in San Francisco.
We have been involved with Guide Dogs for the Blind located in San Rafael as puppy raisers in Davis since 1995. Our daughter raised 8 pups and I raised 3, and I continue with the club sending out notices to members. Ben loves anything and everything about trains and baseball, so our travel plans include trips on trains to baseball games when possible!! ....
We look forward to meeting our future house sitters and hope someday to do housesitting a well. + More info
Our Home & Location
Davis has about 50,000 residents plus about 40,000 college students who attend UC Davis. We live at the north edge of town and our subdivision links to a wonderful bike path and park. The local bus has a stop a couple blocks away, and an area bus travels to Sacramento and the airport. The airport is 20 minutes away, Lake Tahoe is 2 hours away, San Francisco is 1.5 hours away by car, also reachable by Amtrak connecting with BART subway system. Sacramento is about 20 minutes by car. Amtrak stops at Davis. Downtown Davis has huge variety of restaurants, and Saturday and Wednesday Farmer's Market.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have two 6 year old kitties. Olie is the white one who is very cuddly and tries to escape the house and knocks things off counters and shelves, and Fonzie is the black one who is very shy. Sometimes, we may have our daughter's 3 kitties, which will be noted when we advertise for a sit. We ask sitters feed/water the pets, clean kitty litter boxes. We have a bird bath, bird feeder, and 2 hummingbird feeders we would like sitters to maintain, but definitely not a requirement. We also have a pool that needs to be monitored, which may require a replacement of a small nylon filter in the sweep and adding chlorine tablets when necessary. Law mowing may be needed. Vacuum the carpets as needed. Gather mail from our neighborhood mail box.
