Enjoy Denver and the Mountains
We are a family of three - two adults and one child, 12 years old. We love to garden and cook, hike and bike, and enjoy the many museums Denver has to offer. We are both professionals with Ph.D.'s in political science; though both of us have moved on from being professors and now we devote our professional lives to addressing complex problems in the world.
Our Home & Location
Our home is located in the largest New Urbanism development in the country. New Urbanism is worth "googling" if you are not familiar with it - but in a nutshell, it means that our new home is embedded in a neighborhood that has all the amenities of a vibrant urban core neighborhood including many restaurants, coffee houses, grocery stores, retail shops, recreation centers, a library, yoga and Pilates studios, swimming pools, and miles upon miles of bike and walking trails on hundreds of acres devoted to parks, green spaces, and wetlands. The neighborhood also has many community events year round. In the summer, there are weekly free outdoor movies "on the green" (the Founder's Park plaza), free live concerts, and a farmer's market. Special events include a mid-summer beer festival, end-of-the summer outdoor yoga festival, monthly craft/flea market, monthly wine tastings, and many more things. You could enjoy yourself just fine within the neighborhood; but the best part of living in Denver is its proximity to the mountains. And Denver itself is amazing. It is vibrant and hip. Our home is just one mile from the commuter train that connects us directly to downtown and the airport.
Responsibilities & Pets
Our two cats are litter mates. Like any siblings, they can get into tiffs; but mostly they mind their own business. They are neutered males and love people. Both will want your attention - and that is the hardest part of the job - petting them. They are both in good health and good eaters. Our vet, should they need one, is in the neighborhood (of course!).
We have many houseplants that will need to be watered. We request that you keep the house tidy and clean up after yourself; but we don't expect you to be our housekeeper....
Our home is powered by solar panels. It also has a solar attic fan and a whole house fan, which keep the home very comfortable even on extremely hot days. However, we also have air conditioning if it is needed.
We have many gardens but all are on a sprinkler system so should not need special attention. However, depending on the length of stay, we may encourage you to harvest the ripe fruits (black raspberries, peaches, apples, grapes) and vegetables as we'd hate to see them go to waste. Because we are lifelong vegetarians, we request that no meat (including fish) be cooked in our kitchen or on our outdoor grill. If you want to order carry-in that has meat, that's fine. + More info
