Take care of our two older dachshunds in Jacksonville, FL
We are searching for caring house sitters (we prefer a couple) to care for our home and dachshunds during our various travels.
Our Home & Location
We have a large, beautiful home on the river with an inground pool. Please note that we live in northern Florida, so the climate generally allows for swimming from mid April through mid October. You must be very mobile, as there are many steps in our home. Our home is 5 minutes from downtown Jacksonville and 20 minutes from the beach. It is a 45 minute drive to historic St. Augustine and the World Golf Village. We have started renovations, so our home Will likely be in some sort of disarray but no so much that it would be uncomfortable for you (especially since you’ll be in the pool a lot if you’re here in season). Our dock is out of service, as it sustained damage during Hurricane Irma, but if you like to fish, you can still do so from the yard.
Responsibilities & Pets
Our dogs are pretty easy keepers. Feed them twice daily and make sure they have plenty of water. Show them lots of love. Ditto is losing her hearing, so patience is a must. We have a fenced in yard, but we do require that you be outside with the dogs when they are in the yard. We live on the river, so there are lots of critters around, plus Oscar is a bit of an escape artist. Although you’re not likely to see any, please be mindful that there are alligators in the river as well as poisonous snakes. You may get to see manatees eating the sea grass.
The dogs can be left at home for as long as eight hours at a time, so that will give you plenty of time to explore. We also ask that you take care of the pool, which involves emptying the skimmer daily and (on sits lasting more than a week) taking the water to be tested once weekly and following any instructions given by the pool store. We will, of course, pay for any chemicals required, although we will most likely have what you need on hand. It’s a salt water system, so there’s really not that much maintenance required. We will hire a service to take care of the yard.
