2 Old Rescues
I live in East Point, GA (near the airport) with my two older rescue dogs - Baxter (10), who I've had since he was one year old, and Berry (7) who I've recently rescued to be a companion for Baxter. I have 3 adult children who all live fairly fairly far away - Japan, The Netherlands, and Savannah, GA on the coast, so I'm travelling as much as possible. I live in a wonderful, friendly safe neighborhood where I've comfortably walked the dogs at all hours of the day and night since I moved in. The house is a 5 minute drive from the airport (although not under a flight path, so noise is not a problem), 1 mile from the MARTA train station, and very close to both I-85 & I-75. Easy 15-30 minute drive to downtown Atlanta, and just 5-10 minutes up to the Westside Beltline. Just installed a new, wood fence for the backyard and teaching the dogs to use the dog door.
Baxter has recently begun to develop dementia, which has led to some anxiety. So far, anxiety meds, Bright Minds food, CBD oil, and the new companion have him calm again, but I want to avoid any additional stress by sending him out to a kennel when I travel, hence PetSitters! I am a CPA, and gone most of the day Monday - Friday, and they manage fine with my schedule. They are both really sweet, easy dogs to care for.
Our Home & Location
I live in a 2 bedroom, 1 bath house built in the 1940's and completely renovated in 2017. All electric (not my choice, I miss the gas stove), full laundry, and bonus room/office where I keep the smart tv. I don't have cable but do subscribe to Hulu, Netflix and Prime. Hardwood floors and a fireplace (although I just moved in 6 months ago and haven't had it inspected yet).
I love my neighbors and neighborhood - I rented here for 2+ years before buying this house, and have always felt safe walking the dogs late at night by myself. Active neighborhood association and neighbors who really keep an eye on things (in a good way!). Very convenient location - 5 minutes from the airport, 15 - 30 minute drive to downtown Atlanta, both I-75 and I-85/the connector are just a few minutes away. And we have MARTA! It's about a mile from the house. You can walk or take a bus there (it stops at the end of my block in the neighborhood), or drive and park. East Point is part of the new "Aerotropolis" which includes Hapeville and College Park, which both have a number of interesting restaurants & bars - Hapeville is home to the new Arches Brewery and don't miss Beer Girl Growlers down the street - both beer and wine on tap and in bottles, as well as bar service in the store and on their deck....
Straight shot up Main Street (about 4 miles) to the new Westside Beltline and the Lee+White District with Monday Night Brewing Garage, Wild Heaven Beer, ASW Distillery, Honeysuckle Gelato, Golda Kombucha, and Doux South Pickles. Or just head on up on Marta to the Mercedes Benz Stadium to catch Falcons (football), Atlanta United (soccer) as well as professional basketball and concerts in the other venues nearby. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The dogs need to be walked twice a day - I usually walk them when I get up in the morning and again when I get home after work. We sometimes do longer walks/hikes on the weekend. I feed them twice a day - when we get back from our walk. Dry kibble with a dehydrated topping, and drops of CBD oil. Baxter gets his anti-anxiety meds in a piece of hot dog at night before I go to bed (and of course Berry gets one too).
All electric house which was completely renovated in late 2017, so comfortably warm in winter and cold in summer. 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, hardwood floors, complete kitchen, full laundry. Easy to care for - I haven't had any problems.
