Comfortable, Convenient Home Near Washington DC with Three Sweet and Easy Pets
Hi there! This is Brie and Dave. We live just outside of DC in a beautiful, safe, walkable city called Hyattsville. We have a three sweet, low maintenance pets - Mabel the dog, Marty the larger cat, and Little Miss - our smaller, skittish cat. We are traveling to Europe from August 31 to September 10th, and we're more than happy to host a fellow traveler - and can prepare you very well for trips to Washington, DC (twenty minute drive) and to Baltimore (a very artsy city, only about 45 minutes away). We are very easy-going, but one request we have for any sitter is a daily update. We've never left our home or little ones with a stranger, and it would make everything much easier if we were to hear from our city at least once a day to hear the basics "Pets are alive, generally happy, they are eating. The house is fine." And maybe a photo or two :-)
Our Home & Location
Our home is a stand-alone house with 2 large bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. The house is older so it creaks a little. But everything is in fine shape. The kitchen is huge and great for prepping meals. We have a large fenced in backyard - for which it would be fine to let our dog out in the morning - for a good half hour, and then a walk around the neighborhood at night. The house has window air conditioning units that are easy to use. They do take about twenty minutes to get the rooms really chilled, and we would greatly request that you turn them off while you are not in the house - the energy bills otherwise are very high. Our water pressure is good. In walking distance is a number of restaurants and shops, and, again, there are buses everywhere to take you directly to the metro station if you don't enjoy walking, or a 25-minute walk to the metro - which will take you right into DC in about fifteen minutes. To the north of us in the city of College Park - which has many restaurants, bars, great running paths, and is fine. But DC is really the place to be.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have three pets, as mentioned above. Mabel is on the large side - she's a boxer mix around 55 pounds. She's VERY sweet - loves to cuddle, is pretty low energy when she's inside. She pulls a little on walks, but if you are firm with her, she will loosen up and won't be a problem. She's not a fan of being near other dogs - so we walk her for a while - about 45 minutes - at night, and just avoid other dogs, and it's never a problem. Maybe a little barking. We would like someone who has experience with medium to large dogs - because some of our thinner, less strong friends have had a little trouble preventing Mabel from pulling. Mabel has no weird food allergies - she just eats dry food and needs clean water. She also will need a lot of love - she's very sensitive, loves to sit right next to you, and sleep with you (but you can feel free to NOT sleep with her) - she also doesnt mind being on the floor right next to the bed. She will miss us the most of all of the pets.
Marty - is a whiny cat with a mustache (you'll see in photos). He loves treats and dry food. He likes company. He enjoys chasing his sister - Little Miss. Marty has no food issues....
Little Miss is the scaredy cat. You might not see her at all for the first few days. Hopefully, it will be nice if you DO see her at certain points - so we know she's still alive. At night, and all day - if we're home and strangers are not in the house - Little Miss lives in our screened-in front porch. She basks in the heat and sunlight, and loves to watch as people walk by. Little Miss eats wet food. + More info
