I am a writer with two wonderful dogs. I travel for work (to teach workshops) and for pleasure. I prefer for my dogs to stay at home with their routines intact.
Our Home & Location
Small university town. Good bookstore and library within walking distance. The Great Alleghany Passage runs right through town, a 230 mile cycling/hiking/skiing trail. Winter sits require people who enjoy winter. You can still live without a car mostly. The nearest supermarket is a little over a mile away and I drive there and to the drugstore/pharmacy, but otherwise I walk almost everywhere in every season. There are Trivia games at bars and coffee shops, cultural events at the university, a music venue on Main Street, and all sorts of fun events at a local gallery. If you make art, there is an art supply store on Main Street. A yarn store offers lessons. There is a yoga studio two blocks from my house. A food co-op is on the verge of opening just two blocks from my house. I am leaving my car so you could use it if you do not have a car of your own. I will send photos of the house and guest room if you are interested.
Responsibilities & Pets
Responsibilities include walking, feeding, and loving dogs, bringing in the mail, and watering flowers in summer. In the winter the dogs are reduced to one walk a day. They have a big yard and spend time out there in the coldest weather. I have hired a local teen to remove snow from the walk in front of the house. If we get a big snow you may need to do some shoveling off the back porch. Picking up dog poo is done daily. This requires walking the yard with a supply of bags. Trash will need to go out weekly. Recycling goes to the curb less often.
