Clean and Bright Two Cat Home Near Baltimore
I am active duty Navy stationed near Baltimore, MD. I deploy often - about 4-6 months every 12-18 months - and between deployments, out-of-town training, and leave, I am often away from home. I have two friendly cats who love people and love to cuddle - they absolutely need human attention and love! As soon as you sit down, Pancake wants to be in your lap, and MooMoo is a champion purr-er. I hate having to leave them, and know they would love to meet and bond with new people.
Our Home & Location
My home is a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom two-story home with an unfinished basement in Arbutus, MD. The house was built in 1930 and just recently renovated - it is a beautiful home with lots of natural light. Arbutus is an unincorporated community and you will often find it listed as Halethorpe or even Baltimore - it is in Baltimore County. I am a 10-15 minute drive from the heart of Baltimore - home to the Orioles, the Ravens, and many endearing and lively city neighborhoods. The light rail is not easily accessible from my area, but it is an inexpensive Uber ride into the city. I am also just shy of an hour drive to DC - but why drive when you can take the train? The Halethorpe Marc Station, which is on the Penn Line of the Baltimore-DC commuter train, is just a couple minute drive from my house with free parking, or an easy 10 minute walk. Other options include driving to an outer metro station, parking, and taking the metro into DC.
Arbutus is a small college town - the University of Maryland Baltimore County is just a half mile away down the street I live on. It is a great area to go for a walk or run. Patapsco Valley State park is less than 2 miles away (you can bike to it) and boasts lots of great hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as picnic areas access to the Patapsco River. Also less than 2 miles away is the new brewery that Guinness just opened - another easy bike ride! My house sits just off Arbutus' main street, and there are several small restaurants and cafes nearby and a great bakery/coffee shop just around the corner. Grocery shopping (at a discount grocery store) is in easy walking distance....
I am an avid cyclist - if you are small (I'm 5'2"), you are welcome to borrow a bike for the duration of your stay! If you bring your own, the basement is a great place to store it and I also keep tools and a stand for maintenance. I also have kayaks you can borrow.
I have listed that you need a car - but you could probably do without. That being said, my home is not in the city and public transportation is not as easy to come by as it would be closer to either Baltimore or DC.
I am currently deployed overseas - when I return home in March I will post pictures of the house as soon as possible. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Primary responsibility is care for the cats. They share a litter box upstairs that needs to be cleaned at least every other day, if not daily - if it is full, MooMoo will not use it. They eat a portion of food twice a day - in the morning and in the evening. You cannot just leave a big bowl of food out because they will eat it all at once and become chubby smelly kitties. Other than that, they are pretty easy to take care of. MooMoo likes to go outside - she will use the kitty door or just follow you in and out.
The cats shed quite a bit - especially MooMoo, with her long hair - I own a Roomba which can take care of the ground floor pretty easy. A vacuum or broom upstairs will get the litter and cat hair that accumulates up there pretty quickly....
I also keep a few plants that will need watering. + More info
