Cozy Detroit Area home w/ a sweet and easy dog - safe neighborhood & great location
Hello! My name's Tori and I am a Detroit area native. I'm an animal lover through and through. I live alone with my dog, Nero, in a safe and excellently located Detroit suburb. I am an avid traveler, often solo traveling, and I'm looking for like-minded individuals to mind my dog and my home while I'm away. I recently started a new job that will require me to travel much more frequently.
I'd love to find a house sitter here since I am a House/Pet sitter myself and I'm a firm believer in community-based services. I have been pet sitting for over a year now and absolutely love what I do. I hope to find someone with a similar passion to care for Nero while I'm away. If this sounds like you - I look forward to chatting!
Our Home & Location
Detroit was named Lonely Planet's #2 top city to visit in 2018 and the New York Times #9 top place to visit in 2017. I have lived here all my life and I'd love to give you a local's perspective on interesting things to do during your stay.
My home is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath home with a medium-sized fully fenced yard and private driveway. There is a basement with laundry facilities and a small porch with humble outdoor seating in the backyard. I have a comfy queen sized bed and an office with a cute and relaxing seating area. You'll find tons of natural elements though out my home such as Himalayan salt lamps (natural air purification), crystals, house plants and air plants....
My neighborhood is a small suburb of Detroit with an easy location to the city. Hop on the highway (less than a mile away) and you're only a 15 minute drive straight to Detroit. My home is also within walking distance to neighborhood bars and cheap restaurants, and you can walk or bike to Downtown Royal Oak (one of the trendiest neighborhoods for shopping, dining, and nightlife) about 2 miles away. Other trendy areas - Downtown Ferndale and Birmingham - are also in driving/biking distance.
If you don't have your own car you are welcome to use mine. It has park passes that will get you into any state park including Belle Isle in Detroit, and beautiful metro parks that are about 30-40 minutes drive away. I have 1 bike you can use as well.
Things to do include: Eastern Market, Detroit Institute of Arts (world class museum. See Van Gogh works, Warhol works, mummies, and an incredible Star Wars Costume exhibit thru the summer), Belle Isle, River Walk, Art-Deco Architecture, The Motown Museum, Jack White's record label, local breweries and restaurants, Greektown
Closer even than Detroit you'll find boutique shopping and dining in Royal Oak, Birmingham, and Ferndale. Check out the Rust Belt Market in Ferndale for an incredible local artists market - a 10 min or less drive away! + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Nero is a sweet and gentle companion. He has good manners and is well behaved. He doesn't jump on counters, won't try to steal your food, listens well, and is quiet. I used to take him to work with me and everyone who meets him falls in love!
He is easy to care for. He's housebroken and eats 1x a day. He loves to be outside with you and loves to go for walks, hike, and play fetch. He just wants to be near you. We play fetch in the backyard or he lays on my porch/ in the sun while I sit and read. Inside he is content to lounge around on the couch and watch the world go by out the window. He enjoys tug of war too when he's in the mood to play! He is a perfect balance of playful and relaxed but he's not lazy. He's not crated during the day, and I let him sleep in the bed with me. He goes with the flow. He enjoys affection but he's not usually pushy for it. He's learned that if he just lays there looking cute, people will come to him to rub his belly ;)...
He is fixed and fully vaccinated. He's great with adults, but not children as he has limited exposure to them.
Other responsibilities include bringing in the mail, watering a few houseplants, and general tidiness of the home. Cleaning up after yourself as you would in your own home is expected.
What you can expect from me is warm hospitality, a clean and tidy home, clean linens/towels, free onsite laundry, car/bike usage, and whatever food/snacks you'd like to help yourself to. When you're in my home you're family. Please care for my home and for Nero as if they are your own as well :) + More info
