The Grand Marais Boat House
The Boat House is our home, it is a striking timberframe barn that was originally built to house, build and restore boats. It is thoroughly modern with in floor heat, two bathrooms, a charming kitchen, lots of lofty space and light. It is located in the heart of Grand Marais, named by Budget Travel Magazine as the "Coolest Small Town in America". The Boathouse is one of 4 buildings that are vacation rentals and are in very high demand by vacationers to Grand Marais.
Our Home & Location
The Boathouse is a truly stunning structure with vast open spaces and beautiful light. The Canoe and kayak bay has been converted in to a thoroughly modern kitchen, there is a music studio, and a master bedroom loft with a great view of the harbor and the lighthouse. On the top of the building there is the breathtaking cupola, from which a person can view the entire town of Grand Marais. The town is exceptionally safe and attractive. People come from all over the country to stay in our rentals. Nearby is the North House Folk School and the Grand Marais Art Colony. We are only steps from the harbor, and all the attractions of the small town. These include restaurants, bars, and wonderful trails for hiking, skiing, or dog walking. We will only consider experienced and dependable applicants with references.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have 6 vacation rentals on site and that involves some light laundry and general light caretaking from time to time. In summer this caretaking involves lots of watering of outdoor and indoor plants, the occasional conversation with tenants who like to be social, and general oversight of this small property. We have other staff responsible for cleanings who will drop in from time to time. We handle all paperwork and reservations remotely. Regarding our dog, duties are to care for our sweet and reclusive mixed breed dog "Maya" who is ony 30 lbs and elderly. Well behaved and requires two walks a day at exactly 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM. This is a property that could easily rent for several hundred dollars per night so this is a great opportunity for a truly responsible person/ couple to enjoy not only the charms of Grand Marais, but our sweet little rescue dog Maya. She currently is near the end of her days and requires special consideration for her diminished abilities and medications. She has degenerative disc disease which is causing clumsy behavior, falling, inability to handle stairs, dragging of knuckles requiring that she wear protective booties on walks. She is on steroids and gabapentin and dasaquin and fish oil. She receives medications 3 times a day.
