Twin Cities MN Quiet Suburbia with 2 Loving Dogs and car
We are new empty nesters who love to travel but love our dogs more. We’ve traveled extensively in the past with our kids and the benefits corporate America provided. Now, as a substitute teacher and a professional writer our schedules are flexible for us to enjoy the world, but only if we know our home and pets are well cared for. Our older dog is healthy, but doesn’t enjoy the cageless kennel she’s gone to for too long a stay. She wants her own home and bed and a roll in her own backyard - and I don’t blame her! Our younger dog just wants to be with her sister and guard our yard from the rascally rabbits and squirrels. Our home is roomy, comfortable, and full of dog hair and love. No-smoking inside or out please.
Our Home & Location
Our home is in the suburban town of Shakopee, about a 30 min drive to downtown Minneapolis/ St Paul. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths up, and a finished walkout basement with guest bedroom, full bath and kitchen and den area, as well as workout room. Our neighborhood is a family residential area with shopping and restaurants about a mile away. Super convenient, but not loud traffic, etc. It is an area where you need a car, but we’ll provide one of our cars for your use. It’s also a lovely area for walking/ running and biking. We are less than a mile from the Minnesota river ( but not in a floodplain!) which makes the bird viewing amazing, including Blue Herons, Great White Egrets, Bald Eagles, and a variety of hawks almost daily during the summer. (The hawks and eagles stay around for the winter too.) Our deck feeders have lots of song birds everyday, and brilliant orange orioles are our spring companions with hummingbirds showing up for the summer.
We are a quick 5 minute drive ( or bike ride) to Sandy Point beach on Prior Lake where there is a small swimming beach, a fishing pier, and picnic pavilions. We are also just a few minutes drive (or bike ride) from ValleyFair amusement park and Canterbury Race Park, as well as Mystic Lake Casino. Shakopee has mostly chain restaurants, but there are a few local spots that we enjoy, including a microbrew taproom and a downtown brew hall....
The Twin Cities are a quick drive away with major league football, baseball, basketball ( M and W’s) and soccer too. Plus, we love the many, many theaters in the area - professional, regional, and local! There is also quite an assortment of museums in the area. And the Twin Cities has really developed into a foodie and microbrewery hub with a variety of cuisine from high end to food trucks and every ethnic flavor too. It’s really nice to enjoy the many amenities of “ the big city” for the day or evening and then return quickly back to our quiet, comfy, and free, home. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Sydney and Lucy spend most of their days napping, BUT they do like their daily walks around the neighborhood during nice weather(approx 1 mile on flat sidewalk), hanging out on our back deck with the gate up during nice weather, and rough housing for about 1/2 hour after dinner while we are loading the dishes regardless of the weather! They are both fed dry dog food with a splash of water twice daily. The fish need flakes every few days.
