Serene Home Near Asheville and Waterfalls with Loving Pets
We've been trusted house-sitters ourselves and now we need someone to watch our pets for several upcoming trips. Kai is an amazing, fun, and affectionate standard poodle who loves company. Cali is a sweet, shy girl who gets fed twice a day and likes occasional interaction. It would be great to find someone who could cover both sets of dates. Our comfortable home is centrally located to take in the amazing sights of Western North Carolina.
Our Home & Location
Our home is beautiful, peaceful, and spacious with three bedrooms and two baths upstairs, plus a finished downstairs guest room/den/full bathroom. We're on a tree-filled acre with a stream running at the bottom of the property. You can really hear it after a rain. The neighborhood is quiet, lush, and safe. The queen guest room and bath are downstairs, with sliders to a deck, and upstairs are two offices plus an enclosed Moroccan porch. The kitchen is high-end with an induction stove and lots of amenities. We recently moved in and are still decorating, so the decor will evolve over the next few months. There's a great park a few minutes drive from our door, with hiking trails and streams. At the bottom of our hill there's a nice cafe, an excellent vegan restaurant, a decent Chinese restaurant, a salon, a massage place plus a post office you can walk to.
The great thing about our location is the proximity to so many great sights. Downtown Hendersonville (10 minutes), Flat Rock with its well-known theater (15 minutes), Asheville (30 minutes), Dupont State Forest with its many waterfalls (20 minutes), Pisgah National Forest with its gorgeous hiking trails, and Brevard with its music festival and crafts are all close at hand. There's a YMCA with a pool and good fitness classes five minutes away....
Hendersonville is a lovely place with a walkable downtown, lots of really good restaurants with outdoor seating spilling onto the sidewalks, galleries and interesting shops and an old-fashioned feel. There are plenty of sites right in town, from the Carl Sandburg homestead to the aviation museum to gorgeous Jump-Off rock. Farms, breweries, orchards, and retreat centers abound in the area, plus there are several excellent supermarkets and health food stores. Within half an hour, you can visit the Biltmore Estate, the Grove Park Inn, Thomas Wolfe's home, the many galleries and River Arts District in Asheville, and spectacular mountain scenery including over 100 waterfalls in easy driving distance.
We have good wifi. You'll need a car. Absolutely no smoking in the house, and no drugs. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We are hoping for sitters who will spend plenty of time in the house or else take Kai when they go out (he has service dog credentials and this is an amazingly dog-friendly area) as he hates to be alone. This is a perfect spot for a writer, creative person, or telecommuter who wants to hang out, although Kai is okay left alone for up to five hours on occasion.
Both Kai and Cali need feeding twice a day. Kai needs a few walks and time playing ball. They both appreciate affection and will return it many times over, although Cali is very, very shy. Other than that, the responsibilities would be keeping the house neat and clean, picking up the mail, scooping Cali's litter boxes, and watering plants as needed.
