Enjoy Christmas or Spring in N.E. Ohio USA
We are a professional couple, both working from our home offices based in Hudson, Ohio, between Cleveland and Akron. (http://www.hudson.oh.us/) We’re hoping to find someone to love and take care of Zipper and our home as we would, and enjoy time in North East Ohio. Like you, we are also house sitters through this site, love the ability to travel and live as a local and have a number of great references.
Our Home & Location
Our home is a two-story, colonial design, four bedrooms, 2+ baths in a quiet residential neighbourhood. The kitchen has all the appliances you’ll need (we don’t use a microwave) and a bar-b-que on the deck.
The guest room has a double/full size bed and a separate bathroom/tub/shower down the hall. We have an extensive library of mystery and adventure books that you’re welcome to read. A 55” TV with streaming services and cable is in the living room. Sitter will need a car....
Hudson is a community of 25,000, next to other towns of similar size (Twinsburg, Solon, Stow, Cuyahoga Falls). Many people walk the neighbourhood, with and without pets. There are walks along the street and through the woods circling a public golf course. If you’d like a 40 min walk in nice weather you can reach a grocery store, bakery/coffee shop and restaurants.
Downtown Hudson has many restaurants, a great library, grocery stores and shops. It’s an easy drive to downtown Cleveland for theatre (Playhouse Square), music (world renowned Cleveland Orchestra), galleries (Cleveland Museum of Art, Botanical Gardens, Natural History Museum) sporting events (Cavaliers basketball) and the shore of Lake Erie. There’s great shopping in the Woodmere/Chagrin areas heading north, and the Fairlawn/Akron area to the south. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Zipper is a rescued Collie/Sheppard mix, gentle and lovable, 55 lbs. He needs one longer walk per day and will love you if you add in a second shorter walk when you can, always on a leash. Our yard has an underground electric fence and wearing his collar he can be let out to do his business into the back yard between walks. If you go to bed early like we do, he may wake you up early to go out. The later he goes out at night, the longer he sleeps in the morning. Just in case we miss hearing him, he wears a belly-band overnight and when we’re out of the house. (These have disposable pads inside, and the band can be easily popped into the washer.)
Since we both work from home, Zipper can go out during the day whenever he needs it. Generally we’re only out of the house half a day at one time, however that makes a day-trip difficult. So we’ll pay for you to take Zip to doggy daycare whenever you'd like to have the whole day out. It’s 15 minutes by car from the house; he has lots of friends there, gets extra exercise and comes home exhausted....
We’d like to return to a home as clean and organized as when we left. For the Christmas/New Year's sit there may be some snow to shovel from the driveway and walk. Only non-smokers (of any kind) and please check with us before having others come to our house. We’ll be easy to reach for any questions you have by text and phone. The goal is for all of us to be happy with the experience!
For the December sit, the 19th is the day before we leave, arriving home late on January 5th. Ideally you can depart any time on the 6th, or stay a few extra days to explore the area if you like.
For the March sit, the 13th is the day before we leave, arriving home late on the 30th. Ideally you’d depart any time on the 31st, or stay a few extra days to explore the area if you like.
Please contact us if you’re available for only a large part of the sit. Although not our preference, something may work out where we can split the times if necessary + More info
