House and Pet Sitting in Eugene, OR for Lovers of Nature, Exercise and Golden Retrievers
Elizabeth and I are mostly retired and looking to travel and for folks to house sit and to love on and exercise our sweet and athletic Golden Retriever, Lucy while we are gone. We have a lovely house to go with our beautiful dog - everyone who steps in remarks on the beauty of the house and setting. Hard to know which you will enjoy more!
Our Home & Location
We have a beautiful 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home with 2400 sq ft on two levels in South Eugene, Oregon. The bedrooms, kitchen, common area and large deck are on the upper level, with wood floors throughout. With an open floor plan, light and bright interior from dozens of windows and skylights, 25 foot ceilings in the common area, visibility to the large fenced back yard which backs on to a large nature park and hiking trail, the party deck, granite countered kitchen - the warm inviting feel of it - we (and you) love it all. It is in a rural area just outside of Eugene city limits - but only 5 minutes from South Eugene shopping, and 15 minutes from the I-5 freeway. There are no directly adjacent neighbors - unless you include the hummingbirds, deer and other friendly wildlife. A baby grand piano awaits your fingers if you want to make your own music, and WiFii, Cable TV + Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Amazon Prime and a surround sound system if you want to listen to someone else's. We are outdoors people and have toys to support you in that; golf clubs, kayaks, hiking sticks, energetic dog.
Seventy-five minutes away you find beautiful beaches and hiking at Florence, OR. Seventy-five minutes the other way into the mountains you are skiing, boating, and hiking in the Cascades. Two and a half hours away you are in Bend, OR one of the most outdoors oriented cities in America and a fun place to eat, drink and make merry.
Responsibilities & Pets
Our yard is maintained by a service, and the house is cleaned every two weeks - so nothing there other than normal clean up is required. The lawn and other vegetation is on automatic sprinkler and drip systems - so no regular watering needed unless something is looking dry . Lucy needs walking for 30-90 minutes almost every day, and we live on a 15 mile long urban/rural hiking trail which we use 3-5 times a week. She is fed twice a day. She is a sweet loving, joyful, happy dog that loves the company of other humans - children and otherwise, and other dogs. She is very social and is never aggressive in any situation. She does need to be walked almost every day - rain or shine - and it does rain here during the fall, winter and spring - sometimes quite a bit. So if you don't like exercising in inclement weather and it's not summer - this may not be for you.
If it's late spring to early fall, the Koi can be fed once a day - although that is not completely necessary. Otherwise they require no care. We also have a small Beta fish in an indoor aquarium that is fed a tiny bit each morning. Our mail can be stopped before we leave, as well as the newspaper so nothing there needs managing. Since we travel a lot ourselves we have created an environment which is fairly low maintenance - except for our doggie of course who will enjoy and need lots of love and exercise.
