Fall in Oregon with great furry company!
My husband and I live a pretty sweet life in Hillsboro, OR. Married for 5 years and together for 11, we've been renters at several places but finally were able to buy our first home 5 years ago.
Portland is really only about 20 minutes away when traffic has died down so we go visit the great restaurants and see a comedy show a few times a year. If you are not familiar with Portland and want some tips, just let us know. We are both born and raised Oregonians....
My husband and I work for tech companies, his in Portland, mine in Hillsboro. I have a five minute 'commute' everyday. My job allows me to come home on lunch. I spend an hour feeding and walking our beasties. It's a really nice refresher from the stresses of the job and gives the dogs an extra happy life. Because of this, they are used to people being around more than other dogs but are perfectly happy being left to sleep for 6-7 hours at a time. Our cat is super low maintenance and just needs some food and love early in the day and at night.
We don't take life too seriously and love to try new things, hence joining this site. We love legos, art, snowboarding, camping, hiking, star wars and our pets. Recently we've gotten really into traveling and try to go on at least 2 trips a year. We're looking for house sitters as our pet's health and well being has been the most stressful part of our travel in recent years. + More info
Our Home & Location
Our house is a 1980 ranch with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully functional kitchen and 2 living rooms. Laundry room is behind the kitchen. Backyard is large with lots of seating and bbq setup. It's cozy and fun, with lots of entertainment options. It is currently a house divided by baby gates because Yoda won't stop starting fights with Han. I'd rather they be separated than someone lose an eye. We hope to fix this, it's just taking time since we waited too long.
We do have internal and external cameras as part of our security system but the neighborhood is really nice and safe. I just like to see when we get packages and what my dogs are up to during the day (sleeping always). We have two TV's, game consoles, internet streaming logins and good internet (since we both work for the internet). We do not have cable television....
In central Hillsboro we are a 15 minute walk from the (Trimet) Max line, which will take you to Portland and beyond. You can take the Max from the airport to our home, it's about an hour. Hillsboro is growing really quickly and has a vibrant restaurant scene in both downtown Hillsboro and Orenco station. Uber and Lyft are readily available and are much cheaper than taxis. We're close to a nature park, school, fair grounds and our residential streets are nice for dog walks. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
House Care: Trash, recycle, glass and yard debris go out Tuesday evening (pick up is really early Wednesday morning). We'll let you know what week it is when you're sitting. Mail comes daily. Can run the vacuum robot as you see fit. Clean up food and trash as you make it. No rules on where to eat or what can be used, it's a free for all in here. Dogs are on the furniture all the time, move it around as the sun comes out for a real treat. Sundoggin' is a tradition in our house.
Han & Leia: Breakfast = 1 cup each. Lunch = .5 cups each with probiotic. Han gets a hip supplement too. Dinner: Han = 1 cup. Leia = .5 cup. Water bowl is refilled as emptied. Han will drink a lot, just tell him to stop if it seems excessive. Let them play outside as they want to, they will let you know when they want to go out. Han will bat at the backdoor. Leia will get up in your face and either stare intensely or spin in circles. They love walks, so as many of those as you want to take, they are down for. Leia wears a halti because she likes to jump at squirrels & I like my shoulder joint attached to my body. Other than that they are great at leash walking but must always be on leash, they have no recall outside the backyard. Don't leave food wrappers in the room with the dogs. Also, don't leave remotes in the same room as dogs alone (Leia thinks they're tasty). All the pets and cuddles you have to give....
Yoda: Breakfast = .25 can of wet food & refill on his dry food (he doesn't eat much, we tried more and it just got wasted). Litter cleaned once a week. Pets whenever you go potty, cause that's in the back of the house with him. He will also sleep with you at night if you want. You can close him out of the room if you're not into that, though he will likely meow. + More info
