Oregon Coast bird flock needs a petsitter
Our home sits on seven wooded acres just 7 miles from the beautiful coast of Oregon. Dawn works for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Hatfield Marine Science Center and Ram works from home as a wildlife illustrator. We have a flock of backyard chickens, Peach-faced lovebirds, an Eclectus, and a Blue-fronted amazon. We require a petsitter who loves nature and has proven experience with birds, especially parrots.
Our Home & Location
Our two-bedroom home was built in 2006. It is located on seven wooded acres in Toledo, Oregon. Toledo is seven miles to the east of the popular tourist destination of Newport which has many sandy and rocky beaches and is home to the stunning Yaquina Head Lighthouse, the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the historic bayfront. Our home has a view of a forested valley and a meandering freshwater creek which attracts an abundance of wildlife, especially birds and deer. It is peaceful and surrounded by nature yet it is only minutes away from town.
Ram is a Master Gardener and we have been working on landscaping the grounds to attract butterflies, bees and of course lots of birds. Ram also loves rhododendrons and has planted over 600 in our yard. The interior of the house has a Tuscan feel. Reclaimed, rustic wood was used for the doors. The colors in the home are earth and wood tones and were selected to give the house a warm and comfortable feeling. The house is decorated with natural treasures found on the beach or during trips abroad and vibrant wildlife art. The bathrooms have heated floors keeping your feet toasty warm after a shower. The kitchen appliances are stainless steel and there is a lot of counter space to spread out while preparing for a meal. There is a gas range and BBQ....
Other amenities:washer/dryer, wireless internet, small desk that can be used as a workspace, ample parking, 4-person hot tub, and gas fireplace. The creek offers fishing, kayaking, and excellent wildlife watching opportunities. The backyard is fenced and is home to our flock of chickens. They will produce the best eggs you have ever eaten! We have four parrots adopted from a bird rescue. They are two peach-faced lovebirds, an eclectus and a blue-fronted amazon. The larger birds have their own room and an outdoor aviary. Parrots are not domesticated and in general are not easy to care for as they are demanding, messy and sometimes aggressive towards people. We require a sitter who understands these complicated pets and has a lot of patience. We also feed our parrots a raw whole foods diet so the sitter would need to prepare fresh meals every four days. Because parrots, chickens and dogs don't mix well we regret that we CANNOT allow dogs to stay in our house so please do not ask. We need someone who is comfortable interacting with parrots beyond just providing food and water. We ask that you join us for an orientation prior to our travels so we can show you the home and the pet routine. Please no smokers. The coast of Oregon is beautiful and a desirable vacation destination. Our parrots are featured on Instagram @meet.the.flockers + More info
