Thanksgiving time in walkable Portland with our three kitties.
We’re a family of four with three very beloved cats :) We work from home (a computer programmer and an artist) and our two kids (6 and 13) homeschool, so our fur-babies are very used to having family around -making trustedhousesitters seems perfect for them and our upcoming travels! Our youngest cats are one year old sisters. LuLou is suuuuper sweet (but initially nervous) and Hunny is very bright and loves to play games (even fetch!) after she gets over being skittish :) Our older kitty is 21 years old and we’ve had her for her whole life - she is so loved. She’s healthy (but slower with arthritis) and the sweetest cuddle bug ever. They are all very easy keepers (no kitty neurosis, knock on wood!) who are used to lots of love.
Our Home & Location
Our home is a lovely, remodeled 1905 piece of history that sits in a vibrant and walkable neighborhood in inner SE Portland. We’re sandwiched between two of the most popular streets in the area (Belmont and Hawthorne) with restaurants, bars, the library and groceries all within a short walk. There is a bus stop around the corner giving access to the rest of the city. Our home is light filled from large windows with plenty of open space and a large dash of greenery from our many plants. We embrace a modern take on vintage charm, and cook daily in our well stocked kitchen. Our space on the second floor consists of a living room, dining room, kitchen with small sitting area, a glass enclosed laundry room off the kitchen, a full remodeled bath (with shower and double sink), our two children’s rooms and a covered balcony with seating to enjoy the birds. The finished attic has our sleeping space, which is large and open (but with blackout curtains:), a sitting space with a tv, a partial kitchen, an upstairs study with sitting area and a full bath with bathtub/shower. Both floors have air conditioning and heat. The backyard is our urban retreat with flowers , gardening beds, raspberries, blueberries, apples and figs and a dining table and sitting area nestled under the grapes and the magnolia tree.
Responsibilities & Pets
We would love someone who loves cats! We are our elderly cat’s world and she is very lonely when we are gone. Our younger kittens were rescues who had a rough start on life and they need lots of calm reassurance and love as well. Other than love and play they all just need food twice a day and clean litter boxes (there are two) and clean water daily. We also have lots of house plants and greatly prefer a house sitter who has a green thumb! The plant babies all get drinks once a week and the trash needs to be taken to the curb when needed. We leave our home spic and span when we travel and we would love our house sitter to do the same :) Thanks!
