Lots of pets in Music City
Hi...We are a semi-retired couple who have not been able to travel lately due to knee operations, parent's illnesses, and, of course, worrying about our pets while we're gone. We have family in Texas and would love to go see them and just to be able to take trips while we are still able.
Our Home & Location
Our house is about 4 miles from downtown Nashville and is very, very convenient to most any part of town. We are right in between I-65 and I-24 and I-40. We are on a bus route and Nashville has Uber and Lyft.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have 4 dogs, Sherlock, Bear, Bacon, and Sonny (Sonny would probably be boarded somewhere else during trips) and 7 kitties, Thomas, George, Harry, Gladys, Floyd, Little E, and Monkey (or Floofy as I call her). Most of them are older, so not much "rambunctiousness" at all.
Sherlock is a 13-year-old Golden Retriever and mostly stays inside and does need his medicines morning and night. Bear is 14 years old and stays outside (he doesn't like to be inside), but he has a covered shed, fans, elevated beds (or warm beds in the winter), and all the comforts of home outside. He also gets medications morning and night and sometimes "arfs" when he's hungry or for a snack, so he's a little spoiled, but at his old sweet age, I do anything to make him happy and give him whatever he wants....
Bacon is a small rat terrier who we inherited from a friend of a neighbor who couldn't keep him and he doesn't like to be alone, but he has gotten better as we've had him longer.
Three of the kitties (Harry, Gladys, and Little E) are upstairs inside the house and four (Thomas, George, Floyd, and Floofy) have free run of the full-size basement plus access to a "catio" outside the basement window where they can sit outside in the sun and get all the fresh air they want, so there are a couple of feeding stations, but really not a lot to do (especially for the kitties) except check food and water and litter boxes.
The inside dogs and cats can be alone for a couple of hours at a time, but ideally I want someone here most of the time, but times that you would be away for longer than that can be arranged with another sitter or neighbor.
We are very close to several vet's offices (including a 24-hour ER vet clinic), plus I have a wonderful mobile vet who comes to the house and she is great about letting me bother her with questions or problems.
We have a smaller, older house and our overnight sitter usually sleeps on the couch (where there is a big-screen TV, cable, and internet), because the inside pets congregate there and are just happier with someone around. Our setup would ideally be suited for just one person since there is only one couch. We have a screened-in front porch for sitting and reading and a fully fenced-in front yard so there is really no walking required, just letting Bacon and Sherlock out to potty (and in and out and in...well, you know how dogs are!). None of the kitties ever go outside. + More info
