Enjoy DC sites while caring for my sweet cocker spaniel
Hello, DC has been home since 2001 and I work for the federal government. I travel frequently for work and pleasure and as my dog is more comfortable staying in the comfort of his home rather than at a dog sitter's, I am looking for a responsible dog sitter (or a couple) to care for my pup in my home while I'm away. Ideally, I would prefer to do a meet and greet before my departure date if possible, so you can meet Charly and he can become familiar with you (he doesn't do well with strangers and may become anxious) and to go over any questions you may have. Person or couple will need to arrive the day before dog sit starts but will need to find lodging for that night. This sit is best for a single person or a couple with no children under the age of 8 as my condo is not child-proof (there are stairs to the second floor) and Charly sometimes gets nervous around young children. As a courtesy to you, I respond to all applicants whether you're selected or not.
Our Home & Location
I live in Alexandria, VA which is 5 miles away from DC. I live in a historic community, Parkfairfax,
with plenty of charm and 132 landscaped and wooded acres - perfect for dog walks! This is a dog friendly neighborhood.
This is a great place to stay when visiting the nation's capital as there's easy access to I-395 and Reagan National airport. My neighborhood is very close to Old Town Alexandria, Del Ray, and Shirlington Village where you will find many restaurants/bars/coffee shops....
My home is a 1 bedroom condo with a queen bed, so my place is ideal for a couple or a single person. Both my kitchen and bathroom have been updated. The kitchen is equipped with modern appliances. I have a keurig coffee machine and all the the cooking utensils you may need. Plenty of street parking although per the HOA Association no trailer or recreational vehicle (RV) may be parked on any streets in Parkfairfax. You will be very comfortable in my home. I love my home and I ask that you please leave it in the same manner as you found it.
GETTING AROUND Located adjacent to I-395. The Dash bus stop (Alexandria bus line) is just steps from the front door. The Dash bus will take you to the Pentagon or the Braddock Street metro stops. From these metro stops you can access the Yellow/Blue metro lines which will take you into DC. You can also take Uber to Pentagon City metro stop to access the subway. Uber into DC is also quick and fairly inexpensive depending on the time of day. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Charly is a happy, people-loving dog. He is hard of hearing and although he is a senior pup, he is still very active and enjoys moderate walks in this beautiful neighborhood. The sitter would need to give him two twenty minute walks around the neighborhood - once in the morning and again in the late afternoon/evening. He can be left alone up to 5 hours. He's easy to care for, takes frequent naps and loves to snuggle.
The sitter does not need to be home all day with Charly while you are house-sitting, (enjoy DC sites if you've never been here) but I just ask that you stay overnight to keep him from getting lonely as he's more relaxed when someone is present. Please give him his usual dose of walks, daily affection, and care!...
The upkeep of my house is minimal, other than bringing in the mail and taking out the garbage and having it in as good condition on my return as when I left. One HUGE requirement is that I do not accept smokers of any kind. If your stay is more than 7 days, watering the indoor plants (outdoor plants only in the summer) once a week would be great, too! + More info
