Blue Ridge Mtn Views
We live about 25 mins north of Charlottesville, VA on 2 acres. We have a large house, with a nice unfenced-yard and Blue Ridge Mtn views.
We are seeking a house-sitter to take care of our 2 dogs, fish and indoor plants while we are overseas visiting family. Our dogs are Coco - a Sproodle who is 5 years old, and Elliott, a Cockapoo who is 1 1/2 years old. The fish is a betta....
Nearby are the Blue Ridge mountains which are great for hiking and there are several vineyards within 30 minutes drive. We have lots of amenities nearby but you would need your own car. It is very peaceful here but we have neighbors in our subdivision so you would not feel too isolated. + More info
Our Home & Location
Our house is modern-country in style. I don't like clutter so I keep it very clean and tidy. Our guest area is located in the walkout basement and has a living area with large screen tv, open plan bedroom, and bathroom. There is lots of light from the various windows and doors. We have WiiFii and Directv. The kitchen is upstairs and is modern with a Wolf gas range, microwave, and coffee maker. The BBQ is on the deck and hooked up to gas. There is also a living area on this floor with tv and couches. Grocery shopping is 3 mins drive - Walmart, Lowes, and fast food.
Our area has a lot of antique shops where you can spend hours going back in time. We are most known for our access to the Blue Ridge Mountains which offers many different hiking trails. If you are seeking a bigger city experience, the drive to Charlottesville is about 20 -25 mins and is a straight run down the highway. There you will find all that a typical college town has to offer (shopping, cinemas, and restaurants) and more. It is the home of the University of Virginia and Monticello (Thomas Jefferson). Nearby we have James Madison's Montpellier which is great for walking trails too....
We live in Greene County which is semi-rural. There are pastoral and mountain views galore. The greater Charlottesville area has many different wineries and breweries. In winter, we get a little snow but you have to drive 45 mins to reach the slopes and tubing. Typically our snow comes in Jan/Feb or early Mar.
I would say that our house is very comfortable. It is bright with lots of windows and space. It feels like a real home and is very peaceful. Our subdivision is made of 2 acre lots with about 15 homes. Neighbours are great and we are good friends with many of them.
Our ideal sitter would be a single person or couple. Our house is not kid-proofed and so not suitable for young children. We plan to close off the top floor to heating etc when we are away. We are looking for a single person or couple who will love our pets and enjoy our beautiful area. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We have 2 dogs and a fish. The fish is the easiest - just feed twice a day.
Coco - she is a 5-year old Sproodle. She has an invisible collar so is allowed outside unsupervised. Generally, she goes for a bit of a romp around and then comes back to the front door of her own accord. She comes when called - except if the school bus is stopping out front or there is a squirrel in the yard! Mostly she likes to sleep during the day. She is 50 lbs and needs to be fed morning and night and let out a couple of times during the day....
Elliott - he is 1 1/2 years old and is a Cockapoo. He is still a puppy and so needs more careful supervision. He will chew on shoes etc that are left on the floor. We have him in a gated section of the house but we also have a deck where both dogs can safely hang-out in good weather. Elliott needs to be fed twice a day and let out to play as well. He generally comes pretty well when called but it is best to stay outside with him and watch him. He is the treat monster - so a treat reward is sometimes needed. He also sleeps a lot and does get along quite well with Coco. He is the dominant one of the two, despite being only 23 lbs and will eat her food if he gets the chance! + More info
