Modern Metro-Accessible 2/2 Condo with Outdoor Space and Pets
Local professional, Tory, who loves her pets and loves to travel, is offering up her condo located in the hip and desirable neighborhood of Columbia Heights to a caring and responsible house sitter who is good with dogs and cats.
Our Home & Location
This modern condo is located in a 101-year old town home on a residential street only 3 blocks from the Metro and one block from two major bus lines. Condo is very private and has its own backyard (no maintenance except for watering flowers). If you like to walk, the condo is 3 blocks from local treasure Meridian Hill Park, a less than 10-minute walk from vibrant Adams Morgan and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods, and only 5 blocks from Columbia Heights' own NY Times-renowned "Hip Strip," the 11th Street bar and restaurant corridor. Also close by are the U Street Corridor and 14th Street/Logan Circle neighborhoods (both 1 mile/20 minute walk south), Dupont Circle (1 mile/20 minute walk southwest), and Downtown (a 10 -minute Metro ride or 30-40 minute walk south depending on your destination). Tory walks to all the above-listed places regularly and can attest that the routes are safe and well-lit. There are Zipcar and other car share options located less than a block away. The condo is outfitted with cable, wifi, and a Netflix subscription. Guests usually stay in the guest room, but the master bedroom can be made available if you like or need the space. However, because Tico is wee wee pad trained and the cat litter box and wee wee pads both live in the master suite, the guestroom is often preferred.
Responsibilities & Pets
Tory's dogs, Tico and Roxy, and cat, Birch, are friendly, gentle, and fun-loving. All pets are fed a scoop of dry kibble in the mornings and plenty of water. the dogs get fed a second half-scoop at night if they've finished their morning meal. Tico and Roxy are both senior pups who happily take pills twice a day for minor medical conditions, and both love to go outside as often as you'll let them, but generally at least 3 times per day. Roxy would love to go on a long walk with you to explore the city, while Tico is more content to putter along the block in front of our home. Tico has a limp due to spraining his hip in June, so he does not go for walks right now. He goes out in the backyard instead. he needs to be carried up and down the 4 short steps to the yard, but weighs only 21 lbs, so it's not a heavy lift. Birch is a really fun Siamese who, despite being a cat, has learned the commands "Sit" and "Up" (as long as you have a treat in your hand). Birch has a self-cleaning litter box, so scooping his litter will not be part of your daily routine! Tico is wee wee pad trained and uses pads in the master bedroom if he needs to use the facilities and a human isn't around to let him out. A sitter will need to keep those refreshed during their stay. Roxy also wears a diaper when she is unattended because of her age. Tico and Roxy have a dog walker who comes between 2:00 and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday, so your DC excursions will not need to be interrupted to go home to walk the dogs midday on those days. Tory will also ask the house sitter to check the mail and leave it on one of the ledges in the hall for her return, and to gather her Saturday and Sunday newspapers (Washington Post). You are free to read the paper and recycle it when you are done. Trash is picked up from the cans in the backyard on Mondays and Thursdays, and Recycling is picked up on Wednesdays.
