Sleep in Seattle! Do you enjoy house sitting for a lazy, low-maintenance English bulldog?
Hi! My partner Steve and I are traveling to New England and Ireland for 2 weeks in October (October 17 - November 1). We're in search of a dog and house sitter for that time period. Opie, our bulldog, is almost as low maintenance as a dog can be and, while he'll be a bit shy around you at first, is friendly and sometimes playful even. Our apartment home isn't fancy but it's clean and comfortable and you'll probably feel right at home during your stay. I'm a librarian and Steve's a chef and we like to travel when our schedule permits. While this October trip is a long one, most of our jaunts are long weekends to the Oregon Coast or British Columbia; oftentimes, we'll even travel with Opie and not need a pet/house sitter. We have had friends pet/house sit in the past and we've hired in-home pet sitters too; however, we recently discovered this website and it seems like the only way to go from now on...it means we can travel more often, see new places, and make new acquaintances in the process!
Our Home & Location
Our home is located in the quiet residential Seattle neighborhood of Magnolia. The third floor apartment features a large living room with comfortable furniture as well as cable TV with 100+ channels and access to Netflix and Hulu too. There are 2-bedrooms, one for you and one for Opie...he gets his own comfy futon for his naps and overnight sleep. Both bedrooms also have TV. There's a fully-equipped kitchen for those who are culinary inclined as well as a dining space that accommodates 4 adults comfortably. Of course, there's a bathroom with a tub/shower too. WiFi is available throughout. You also have access to a small but comfortable balcony on which to enjoy morning coffee or evening cocktails and sweeping views of the city (Ballard, Fisherman’s Terminal, Queen Anne, and a bit of skyline) and the Cascades...from Mount Baker to Mount Rainier.
As for Magnolia, there's easy access to coffee, beer (several nearby breweries), a handful of restaurants, and three grocery stores (Albertson's, QFC, and Metropolitan Market) in the immediate vicinity; many are walkable as long as you don't mind climbing a steep hill. Magnolia is home to Discovery Park, Seattle's largest park; it's filled with walking trails, beach access, a lighthouse, and a lot of nature. One of Seattle's top tourist attractions, the Ballard Locks, is easily accessible from Magnolia too. Downtown is a short bus ride away (the 33 and 24 bus lines are easily accessible from our apartment). Access to the waterfront and Burke-Gilman bike paths is easy too if you're a bicyclist. The many shops and eateries of the hip Ballard neighborhood are minutes away too....
If you have your own vehicle, there is ample on street parking. Depending upon our travel plans, use of our dependable but not fancy Kia Soul may be included as part of your stay, just ask. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Opie, our fun-sized English bulldog is a friendly, gentle, and lazy dog. He is pretty low-maintenance requiring two meals per day (morning and evening), as few as four short walks per day (morning, lunch, before/after dinner, and bedtime), and the occasional head pat or butt rub; he also may wanna cuddle with you on the sofa. As for responsibilities with the apartment, enjoy yourself, make yourself at home, watch TV, surf the net, enjoy the balcony, cook a meal...just clean up after yourself and leave things pretty much as you found them. Don't worry about laundering your linens; we'll take care of that upon our return.
