Seeking loving care for Airedale. Convenient location in Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle.
We are a semi-retired couple former bank executive now yoga therapist and mountain guide/ski race coach with plans to travel to ski and hike both nationally and internationally. Our next trip is from March 14th - March 22nd. While these are the dates of our trips it would be helpful for the sitter to arrive the day before we depart so we can review Dundee's routine as well as acquaint the sitter with our home. In addition our return is late in the evening the sitter is likely to want to stay the night of our return as well, which we would warmly welcome.
Our Home & Location
Our home is a cozy mid-century home with a view of Mt Rainier. The primary living area is on the main floor with a bedroom, bath, dining room, large kitchen with breakfast nook, living room with gas fireplace and office. The walkout newly renovated basement features one bedroom, bath, yoga room with gas fireplace, office, laundry and kitchenette/reception area. Located in the Seattle neighborhood of Magnolia, we are a five minute walk to a small village including restaurants, coffee shops, drugstore, book shop, day spa, garden center, bus stop. A ten minute walk to parks, the bluff overlooking Puget Sound with gorgeous views of downtown Seattle and Mt Rainier to the south, Cascade Mountains to the East, Olympic Mountains to the West and a public library. Discovery Park, which contains more than 500 acres is less than a 10 minute drive. Magnolia is very bikeable with access to numerous bike paths. Back yard is private and fully fenced.
Responsibilities & Pets
Dundee is a sweet and exuberant 6 year old male Airedale, who enjoys a routine. He is feed two times a day - once in the morning and again at dinner with an afternoon snack of a carrot or apple. He requires a minimum of two walks a day of a half hour each about an hour after each meal. His left rear leg was injured in a car accident when he was very young, which limits the amount he can walk at one time, however, walks are essential to his wellbeing since his leg gets stiff if he lays around too much. He also likes to play with his toys in the afternoon. He is a bit clownish and loves to play. He loves everyone BUT he hates the mailman. He will bark and growl at him every day through the window. We leave treats for the mailman to leave for Dundee. Dundee is also reactive to anyone coming to the door and will greet visitors with barking and exuberance then calms down in about 3 minutes. Otherwise Dundee isn't a barker. When we leave him for short periods of time he just takes a nap. Dundee is used to having one or both of us around a fair amount but can be left for up to 5 hours at a time. Dundee isn't allowed to beg at the table and will lay down while we are eating. His reward after we finish dinner is a small piece of meat which we enjoys in the kitchen. And if you forget he reminds you with a dance and sorrowful eyes.
