House-&-Pet Sitter needed for mid Feb-March in southern West Virginia
We are seeking a responsible couple to house-and-pet sit from approx. mid-Feb. for three to four weeks- the dates are not yet set, but we are hoping to be able to have a vacation! Our home in the rural southern West Virginia mountains is also our (pet-friendly) historic inn- the Elkhorn Inn & Theatre- and we have 2 dogs and 1 cat- our "kids"! The Inn has high-speed WiFi internet, and all the comforts of a bed-and-breakfast!
Our Home & Location
Our home also a 14-guest room historic inn in the rural southern West Virginia mountains. (The Inn will be closed while we are away, and there will be NO guests!) This would be ideal for a couple who would enjoy and be comfortable living in a rural area, and can handle the household things that may arise- safely make a fire in the fireplace, contact the electric company if there is a power outage, reset a fuse, unplug a stopped toilet... We will walk you through everything and will stay in touch! A writer, someone working on a book or other project, a musician or artist, someone who has a mobile job and can work online, or someone contemplating running a bed-and-breakfast, or buying an historic building, would enjoy it, as well! As we have pets who are used to being around us all the time, we do want at least one person to be at the Inn all the time while we are away. We have high-speed WiFi internet, cable TV, claw-foot bathtubs, down comforters, etc.- all the comforts of a B-and-B! It can get quite cold here in the winter, but fun things to do in this area all year round include world-class railfanning ("trainspotting" and train photography) and excellent fly-fishing for trout in Elkhorn Creek, which is right behind our home, and The best ATV trails in the eastern USA (bring your ATV!), as well as hiking, a nearby golf course, and historic sites. We have a big garden and a lot of land next to our home for pet walking, and off-road parking on our property. Bluefield, WV / Bluefield, VA is 18 miles (30 minutes) from us; Roanoke, VA is 2.5 hours.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have two dogs and one kitty: Bear, our kissy-lovey pit bull, Lady, our sweet, loving lab mix, and Caramel, our cat. Responsibilities are taking care and loving on our "fur babies", watering indoor plants, keeping the doors locked and the building safe and secure, and being able to take care of the usual household things that may arise in our big, historic home/inn! (Don't worry- we will walk you through all of it!) The inn will be closed and there will be NO guests while we are away.
