Five things to do with your dog in NYC

NYC is one of the best cities in the world! There’s plenty of great sights to see, delicious food to eat, and an endless list of things to do. And despite NYC being the most densely populated area in the US, there are still plenty of pet-friendly things to do! So if you have the luxury of house sitting in the Big Apple, you’ll never run out of ways to occupy yourself and your pup. Check out this list of the top things to do while you’re house sitting in NYC!

1. Inwood Hill Park Trail

If you’re pet-sitting a dog that’s got way too much energy to be contained in a small NYC apartment, you should take him or her on a nice hike at the Inwood Hill Park Trail! This hidden gem located at the very north end of Manhattan is NYC’s only natural park. Since it can be easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of NYC, venturing all the way to the top of Manhattan to get away from the noise might do you some good. Taking a trip to Inwood Hill Park is an adventure that your pup will thank you for!

2. Art Galleries

You might not be able to just stroll into just any Chelsea art gallery with your furry friend on a leash, but that doesn’t mean that all art galleries are out of the question! Most certainly don’t allow pets inside, but there are some that will let your dog walk right on in with you! One pet-friendly art gallery worth checking out is the William Secord Gallery in the Flatiron District. Not only does the William Secord encourage dogs to come in to visit, they also specialize in artwork of actual dogs!

3. Explore Central Park

Go check out Central Park for a fantastic place to bring your pets to let them run around, explore, and break out their favorite toys. Central Park is so big that you could explore Central Park for a few days and still not see it all. There are so many little ponds, trails, and places to sit down, relax, and soak up the sun. Especially if you’ve been cooped up in the house for too long watching Netflix, exploring Central Park is a great way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Once you get your pup all tired out, you can find a nice scenic spot to set up with a book and some snacks for a relaxing afternoon.

4. Dog Runs

You might not be able to get away with having your dog unleashed everywhere in NYC, but some places encourage you to let your pup run free! In case you aren’t aware, there are a plethora of dog runs scattered all over NYC. Some of the most notable ones are Tompkins Square in East Village, Madison Square Park in the Flatiron District, and the East River Park Esplanade in the Financial District. Go let your dog run around and have a good time! It’s also a great place to mingle and meet other dog owners.

5. Check out a live event!

New York is one of the most happening places in the world - and you’d be surprised how many things in NYC are pet-friendly! No matter what you’re into, there’s certainly something going on in NYC that’ll pique your interest. From dance lessons and eating contests to comedy shows and charity events, there’s bound to be something to keep you entertained while you’re house-sitting in New York.

New York City can seem small and crammed in many instances, which doesn’t always lend to the most pet-friendly environment. However, there are plenty of places to go and things to do right in NYC that your pet can join you for!
