I have known Karen since 1980 when we were lab partners working toward our degrees in psychology. Several years after graduation, her landlord sold the apartment she rented from him, and my parents invited her to stay with them until she found a new place; she wound up staying with them for 11 years! She became a second daughter, and was so helpful and compassionate while they both battled cancer; often driving them to and from the hospital or doctor's appointments. She is my best friend in the world, and it would be impossible to overstate how responsible, reliable, and amazing she is.
