Top Apps for Cats

We have talked about our favourite apps for dog owners already (click here if you missed it), and now we are tackling the best apps for cats.

There really is an app for everything these days, and pet owners are spoiled for choice. Some apps are better than others, but we reckon every cat owner should have at least a couple of the following apps on their phone or tablet.

Cat Fishing 2

This simple iPad game was designed by pet food company Purina to keep kitties entertained. Colourful fish swim along the screen, and your cat can 'catch' them by tapping the screen with their paws. They can rack up points and compete with kitties across the country: it might not mean much to your pet, but if you are a competitive pet owner it can be exciting to see your kitty climb the leader board. The game exercises their hunting instinct, keeping them out of trouble. It's a good job that iPad screens are strong enough to withstand scratches from cat claws!

Pet Acoustics

The soothing music on this iPhone app is designed to calm down nervous kitties. It's essential if you have a cat that gets stressed out during trips to the vet or during house moves. It's also ideal if your cat is feeling a bit hyperactive and is racing around your house in the middle of the night. Like the Pet First Aid app we mentioned in our post about dog-friendly apps, this entry is a bit of a cheat as it's not just for cats. Pet Acoustics also includes music designed to calm down dogs: and horses!

Paint for Cats

Culture vultures will adore this app, which gives their cats the chance to unleash their inner artist. The app includes a blank canvas, which your cat 'paints' on with its paws. A colourful mouse runs across the screen to provide inspiration as kitty chases it with their paws. There is a range of palettes to choose from to set the mood of the painting: from the bright 'Hot Paws' to the warm 'Caturday'. There's an option to share the finished masterpiece with all your friends and family on Facebook. You never know: your kitty might be a real 'Meowdigliania' or 'Picatssoa!'

Catbook

Why should humans have all the fun? Catbook is a social media app and community of over one million cat lovers. It works the same way as Facebook does, but instead of posting updates about your daily life you use it to post updates about what your cat's been upto, and cute photos of your kitty. It's a good way to connect with other cat lovers to exchange tips. We love it because our house sitters can use it to keep homeowners up to date on what their kitty's been up to! It's also a good way to stay in touch with cats you have sat for.

PetSnap

It's so tricky to get a good photo of your cat, isn't it? There they are, sitting in the perfect position, and then as soon as you snap the picture they look away. PetSnap is great because it plays sounds that cats find interesting. Play the sound to grab their attention, and while they are looking at your phone you can snap a picture of your cat at its curious best. This is great if you need a snap of your kitty to upload to your TrustedHousesitters profile!

We think these five apps are purrfect, but if there's a great cat app we have missed out on, we'd love to hear all about it.
