Forming bonds and fur friendships: Nikita, Nina and Jérémie's Story

Digital nomads Nina and Jérémie began their adventure at the start of 2023. Of course, the idea of leaving behind their beloved pooch, Nikita, was out of the question, so together they made a traveling trio! Their journey began in England…

“We had been dreaming of visiting this part of the world for a few years, so after obtaining my European passport (Nina), we decided it was the perfect time to go.

However, when we checked the prices for accommodations, they were quite high for an extended stay. That's when I came across an Instagram video from @ludeviaje where she explained how to travel for less using TrustedHousesitters. I thought, why not give it a try?”

Joining TrustedHousesitters turned out to be the right decision for them. After three months in the UK and three successful dog sits, they realized this was the path for them. As well as opening up numerous new travel opportunities, the trio were able to find new friends both human and furry.

“My [Nina] favorite thing about pet sitting is the joy and companionship that comes from spending time with animals. Being able to care for and bond with different pets brings so much happiness to my life.

Additionally, the connection that we can establish with the hosts. We have formed strong and lasting relationships with all of them, and it's wonderful to know that we have made genuine connections with people we have crossed paths with. We have stayed in touch with many of our hosts.

It's heartwarming to see the bonds we have built extend beyond just the pet sitting arrangement. The friendships and connections we have made with the hosts truly enrich our pet sitting experience.”

After nearly seven months of pet sitting, Nina and Jérémie (and Nikita, of course) believe they have the pet sitting formula down to a T!

Being able to care for and bond with different pets brings so much happiness to my life.

“A great pet sitter is someone who genuinely loves animals and enjoys spending time with them. They're reliable and responsible, making sure to follow instructions and create a safe environment for the pets in their care. Good communication skills are key, both with pet owners and the animals themselves.

A great pet sitter is also professional, trustworthy, and maintains open communication.”

Despite being pup parents, Nina and Jérémie jumped at the chance to pet sit for animals with two legs instead of four…

“[...] We had the opportunity to take care of chickens, which was something we had never done before. With the guidance and instructions from the owners, it turned out to be a great experience. It wasn't as complicated as we had initially thought, and at the end of the day, we were rewarded with fresh eggs [...]

[...]  I [Nina] love all types of pets and find joy in caring for any kind of furry friend. Whether it's a dog, cat, bird, or even a reptile, I genuinely enjoy the company and the opportunity to provide them with love and care.”

So, after the UK, where do they plan to go next?

“After spending 3 months in England, we have another pet sitting assignment coming up in Murcia, Spain in 2 weeks. After that, we plan to spend 3 months with our family in Ecuador before returning to Europe in September.

Once we're back in Europe, we will apply for another house sitting opportunity, most likely in France or Italy. Who knows?”
