Best Denver dog parks (for your fun-loving Fido)

A woman and her dog in a Denver dog park

Denver dog parks are the pawfect place for pooch pals to do as much socializing, sniffing, and blowing off steam as they possibly can. Dog parks are great fun for humans too, as pet parents and dog sitters can either have a run around with a bunch of four-legged friends or keep an eye on them as they chat with other dog owners.

But before heading to one of the best dog parks in Denver, Colorado there are a few “faux-paws” that help ensure these puppy playgrounds remain a safe and comfortable space for pooch pals and their humans. Keep an eye on fur babies and other pups close by and any doggies that “furget” their manners should be taken straight home. Poorly pups should be kept at home until they’re better, and most of the Denver dog parks require pooches to be up to date with vaccinations and spayed or neutered (unless they have a Denver Intact Permit). It’s always best to bring your own supplies even if the dog park normally provides water and poo bags, and be sure to pick up your pup’s poop to keep the area clean for everyone.

Now, whether you’re looking for a new stomping ground for you and your pooch or you’re pet sitting in Denver and keen to explore, take a look at our pick of the best dog parks in Denver for a tail-waggingly good time.

Cherry Creek Dog Park, Denver, CO: S Entrance Rd, Aurora, CO 80015, United States

Inside the 4,000-acre Cherry Creek Park is one of the best dog parks near Denver, CO. Numerous trails weave their way through the 107-acre Dog Off Leash Area (DOLA) and open out onto huge fields and cool wooded areas, while the creek is the ideal spot for water babies to cool off before another round of zoomies. To enter you must pay for an annual fixed pass ($83) or a day pass ($11) in addition to the dog park pass, which is $25 annually or $3 daily. Pooch pals must be well-trained and kept within sight of their pet parents at all times, and you should come armed with a leash and poop bag as cleaning up after pups is essential.

Berkeley Dog Park, Denver: CO-95, Denver, CO 80212, United States

Located in Berkley Lake Park, this was one of the first Denver dog parks to be opened. The area is spacious and well-maintained, featuring a little section specially designed for smaller doggies. It’s the pawfect park for ball-mad mutts as users report there’s never a shortage of tennis balls, and water and poo bags are also provided (although we recommend bringing your own in case they run out). Operated by Denver Parks & Recreation, there are a few rules in place to keep the area safe and clean: Denver residents must have a Denver dog licence and dogs must be spayed or neutered or have a current Denver Intact Permit.

Westminster Hills Off Leash Dog Park, Denver: 10499 Simms St, Westminster, CO 80005, United States

This park consists of 420 acres of doggy paradise and is ideal for endless games of fetch, adventurous walks, and even mountain biking (all with a pooch pal in tow, naturally!). There is a shallow creek for doggies to cool off in but be aware there isn’t tons of shade so it’s not the best spot for hot days. The area has partial fencing (and not to mention, it’s huge) so dogs must have good recall skills. In addition to this, there have been some reports of rattlesnake sightings and warnings of coyotes, so keep a close eye on your pooch pal while using the park. In order to use the park, residents must have a Denver dog license and doggies must be spayed or neutered.

Lowry Dog Park: Yosemite Way & E 4th Pl, Denver, CO 80230, United States

This paw park has two separate sections for pooch pals depending on their energy levels, plus a play area with obstacles for games and agility training. There’s plenty of off-leash space for everyone, but if you're in need of a long walk, dogs can be put on the leash to investigate the surrounding trails. As the park’s run by Denver Parks & Recreation, users must follow the rules highlighted in the section on Berkeley Dog Park, and be sure to bring your own water and poo bags to avoid any embarrassment!

Railyard Dog Park: 2005 19th St, Denver, CO 80202, United States

Located in the heart of downtown, this is the only dog park in Denver with lighting so it’s the perfect hangout for doggies who want play to continue after dark. Separate sections for high-energy hounds and smaller pooches offer safe play for four-legged friends no matter their size, and locals report there’s free parking on the surrounding streets - an added bonus!

Green Valley Ranch East Dog Park: 4455 Jebel St, Denver, CO 80249, United States

Combine a bit of play for both you and your pooch pal as this park’s got it all - courts for tennis, volleyball and basketball, an outdoor pool, a play area, numerous picnic spots, and of course, a dog off leash area! There are two separate spots for doggies based on size and energy levels, and a covered seating area provides shade for pet parents and dog sitters.

Kennedy Dog Park: 700 E Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231, United States

This Denver dog park has three acres of land for your pooch pal to let off steam, with sandy areas designated for low and high-energy dogs and benches dotted throughout the park for their humans. There is some shelter for sunny or wet days and dog bowls are provided, but be sure to bring water and poo bags of your own.

Greenway Dog Park: 2002 Spruce St, Denver, CO 80238, United States

Another dog park run by Denver Parks & Recreation, doggies of all sizes must share the large sandy area here. Four-legged friends are kept happy with tennis balls aplenty and loads of space for games and training, while pet parents can rest on one of the shaded benches if need be. We recommend bringing poo bags and water to keep everyone happy.

Canine Fitness & Fun Center: 5390 E Evans Ave, Denver, CO 80222, United States

If you’re looking for an indoor dog park, Denver has loads to choose from. In this 10,000-square-foot facility, four-legged friends can swim, play and exercise to their heart’s content. With a dog pool and separate play areas for doggies depending on their size and temperament, you’ll have a hard time dragging your pooch pal away from this center.
