1. Pikes Peak

The 31st highest peak out of 54 Colorado peaks, Pikes Peak is the furthest east of the big peaks in the Rocky Mountain chain. You can explore incredible scenery in the mountain reservoirs and aline wonderland to the 14,115 foot summit of America's most famous mountain.

2. Royal Gorge

The Royal Gorge is a 1,200 foot canyon on the Arkansas River, forming a 10-mile long gorge. The bridge is suspended 1,053 feet above the river, making it the ideal place for you to enjoy scenic views and adventures such as the Gondolas or whitewater rafting. 

3. Red Rock Canyon

Looking for stunning views? Hike up the stunning Red Rock Canyon. The unique red rocks offer great rock climbing (if you’re that way inclined) and, even better, hiking. The upper and lower dog loops have an off-leash area so you can take your new pup with you for a walk. 

4. Manitou Springs

The resort city of Manitou Springs is a top destination for tourists with its picturesque mineral springs and ancient cliff structures. If you’re looking for a challenge, you can climb the hundreds of steps up the Manitou Incline Trail, or for a more relaxing afternoon, there’s plenty of art galleries and boutiques to explore. 

5. Palmer Park 

Love hiking? There’s plenty of trails and different terrains to choose from at Palmer Park. There’s something for every fitness level and two off-leash places for well-behaved pups as well as an enclosed area near the Maizeland Road entrance where dogs can socialize with each other.

Free things to do in Colorado Springs

2. Free Museum Day

Every September, the Smithsonian Institution partners with the numerous national museums to provide people with a day of free admission to museums. There are six museums that take part including; Western Museum of Mining & Industry, Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, Museum of Colorado Prisons, ProRodeo Hall of Fame, Victor Lowell Thomas Museum, and John May Natural History Museum.

3. Bear Creek Regional Park and Nature Center

If you love wildlife and the great outdoors, Bear Creek park is a great place to catch a glimpse of mule deer and other wildlife through the foothills. There’s also guided tours and special events throughout the year to enjoy.

4. North Cheyenne Cañon Park

A sprawling 1,600 acre park, North Cheyenne Canon park has densely forested hills and valleys with extensive wildlife including kingfishers and deer. The spectacular place allows dogs on leads so get your pup out and about on an adventure. 

5. United States Air Force Academy 

Tour the modern campus that includes the Academy, Falcon S Falcon Stadium, a chapel and Arnold Hall, a museum honoring Air Force personnel. There are interactive movies to enjoy as well as interesting and informative displays all around the grounds.

4. Starr Kempf's Kinetic Sculptures

Enjoy the unique gleaming metal sculptures of Starr Kempf. Known for his monumental works of shining metal, the huge steel sculptures move and shift in the wind. Today a number of the kinetic sculptures still stand on the front lawn and can be viewed from the street.
