A round of a-paws, pet parents, today is officially National Spoil Your Dog Day in the United States! Three barks and many tail wags to all! Just when you thought our furry friends and drool babies couldn’t take any more loving, someone decided that annually on August 10th we needed an entire day dedicated to dog pampering.

Of course, every pampered pooch and spoiled puppy deserves some extra love every day, but today is about dedicating your day to your dog. But what’s the best way to utilize this dog day? How do we make sure our favorite furry friends enjoy the day as much as possible?

Here are a few of our ideas on how best to celebrate National Spoil Your Dog Day!

Paw-fect pampering dog treats and gifts for spoiled dogs

Take a trip to the pet store

We have yet to encounter a pet store that is not dog-friendly, but please double-check before making this part of your dog pampering day. Why not head to the source of gifts for spoiled dogs and allow them to pick out their present? Toys, treats, and fellow doggos also celebrating the most important day of the year, the pet store is a great place to kick start this very special dog day.

Make some tail-wagging tasty homemade treats

There are a ton of dog treat recipes out there, most of which are quick, simple, and inexpensive. If your fur baby loves peanut butter, we have four easy but irresistible recipes to follow. Otherwise, try including healthy hound options alongside their favorite meal, such as blueberries, carrots, or even

The American Kennel Club has some excellent suggestions, we highly recommend you take a look at their dog treat recipes page.

Plan a day trip to their favorite park or spot

Sounds almost too easy for a day trip, right? But our pooch pals can be easy-to-please creatures, and often the best way to answer how to treat your dog can come from a daily part of their routine. Do they have a particular park they love to run through? Is it where they can see their best pup pal? Perhaps there’s a paw-ticular woodland walk or beach stroll they love to roll around on? Wherever it may be, incorporate this into your dedicated dog day.

Set up a doggy play date

Show them some extra love with an extra special furry friend. Whether it’s an entire pup pack or just their best barking buddy, see if you can organize a play date, run around the park, or day trip with some fellow fluffs and waggers.

A spa day!

There are many ways to make your dog happy (in fact, we’ve already written about five ways to make your dog happy every day), but nothing says pampering your dog like a spa day. Spoil Your Dog Day should include some luxury, relaxation time for our furry friends

We recommend starting this towards the end of the day when they’re tired and creating an ambient mood with sounds of nature and calm. Take the weight of the day off their doggo shoulders and give them a firm but tender face and/or back massage. Lovely!

For those water-loving pups, run them a nice bath and continue the massaging as you soap them up. Conclude the spa day with a comfortable place for them to sleep and a cozy blanket if there’s a chill in the air. Doggy delightful!
